Shuzo Kobayashi

Biography :

Shuzo Kobayashi, MD, PhD is the CEO of Shonan Kamakura General Hospital and Executive Managing Director of the Tokushukai Medical Group. Dr. Kobayashi has led extensive preclinical and clinical research in regenerative medicine, particularly in kidney diseases. He established cell-based therapeutic strategies for patients with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease in Japan. Recently, he pioneered the clinical translation of cell-free regenerative approaches, conducting one of Japan’s first-in-human trials utilizing mesenchymal stem cell–derived extracellular vesicles for osteoarthritis treatment. His work bridges translational science and clinical innovation, advancing cell and cell-free therapies from bench to bedside.
